The man behind the counter slid a key across the desk to Chiyuki, who took it without hesitation.
"Your room will be ready in an hour, ma'am. Please enjoy your stay." The man said, Chiyuki responded by bowing, and saying under her breath thank you. Chiyuki wasn't Japanese, but it was her first reaction. She didn't care once she walked away and sat in one of the few leather sofas in the empty lobby. She saw some human children running around in the pool area, and over by the pool door was the entrance to the arcade, which was buzzing with very few gamers. She thought it was a nice hotel, but it must have been too nice, but she didn't care, as long as she had a place to rest for the night. It took a lot out of her wallet, for she was a stray, living in an abandoned apartment that had just been torn down, now having nowhere else to go but this expensive hotel.
Chiyuki leaned back into the back of the sofa and sighed, wishing for a better life, but she allready knew the answer, and for the rest of the wait, she decided to stay silent.

Maverick watched the other wolf. So, she preferred staying in this hotel? Obviously she didn't live as a stray "dog" then. Humans. What idiots. Actually thinking that wolves were just large dogs. Maverick went and sat next to her on the sofa. "What's the matter? Why the long face? And why would you ever stay in a human place? You are wolf, if my nose is not mistaken. Names Maverick, by the way." Not a great introduction, but hey, whatever. Maverick wasn't great at introductions.
But now he sighed as well as he thought back to his family. All dead. All but Airron. And he was gone. Gone forever. Holland, six, Taj, Holly, Venus, Jux. All of them, gone forever from his life. Most killed by that damn flood. While Jux died of depression, and Taj and Holly of disease. But his time for grieving was over. It was time to move on with his life. Maverick smiled as he looked at the other wolf. He had been alone for far, far too long.

She saw him sigh, and there she wondered why, but she didn't ask. Soon enough, he looked back at her and a smile appeared on his face. Chiyuki was shocked at first, but she couldn't help but smile back.
Chiyuki looked at the man who sat next to her on the couch, who told her his name, who knew she was a wolf.
"I'm just a little stressed, is all. I came here because I have nowhere else to go."
She thought long and hard about his last question, but then she knew she could trust him and nodded slowly.
"No, your nose is not mistakened." She replied."I'm Chiyuki."

"Nice to meet you, Chiyuki. I'm guessing your not trying to find paradise then, eh? At least, you don't seem to be running with Kiba's pack. Or you wouldn't be staying here. And why is a pretty thing like you traveling alone? If I may ask."
Maverick kept his voice low, for only her ears to hear. No humans could know they were wolves, or there would be trouble. Thanks to Quent, there had been suspicions of wolves disguising themselves as humans. And those suspicions could not be pr oven true. Or it would mean danger for all wolves.
"You know what's great for relieving stress? A bit of fun. And you know what's fun? Hanging with me. So, what do you say? Want to hang out for a bit? Your rooms not ready until an hour from now."
Maverick smiled. Some would probably slap him for being so self-centered. But he hoped Chiyuki wouldn't. He was beginning to like her. But of course, she didn't know he was schizophrenic, always imaging God was speaking to him. And God was telling him not to get involved with this girl.

Chiyuki looked at him with a shocked expression on her face. She never knew there was a pack, she didn't know there was a rapid human out on the streets hunting wolves. When did all this happen? Chiyuki thought silently to herself, but then she was at peace when she was out of the loop, and... What did he call me?
"I like to be alone sometimes. It's usually just a phase." Chiyuki finally spoke up, but then he asked if she would go and hang out with him. Chiyuki has never been asked such a thing like that in her life, and from a boy. She held her legs in her arms on the couch and thought for a second. Maverick looked doubtfull at first, but she made her decision after a minute of silence, and turned to him with a smile on her face and whispered quietly, "Sure."

Maverick smiled a bit more, nodded and stood up.
"So what is it you want to do?"
He held out his hand to her, and avoided her gaze. He was going against God's will. Which he hated to do. Was this really right? He sighed again. He had been alone for far too long. Left with only the voices in his head. But wasn't that all he needed? Apparently not. Or he wouldn't be here now.
Maverick looked into her eyes now, wondering if he looked stupid. They only just met, and already, he was holding out his hand for her to take. Stupid. But, strangely enough, it was being a gentlman. Maverick thought of himself as anything but that.

Chiyuki looked into Maverick's eyes and for a second, she had allready got lost in them. They had just met, and allready, he looked into her eyes, and held his hand out for her. Could this be mine? Chiyuki thought, then before she knew it, she was holding his hand.
"Umm..." Chiyuki didn't know what to do, what to say. She was lost for a second. "I'm not sure...well...I'll do whatever you want to do." She finished, and then she looked back up at Maverick.

"Well, what do you say to grabbing a bite to eat? I stole some money from a poor human sucker. Come on, lunch is on me. We can... get to know each other."
Maverick looked down at her hand in his and smiled again. He never imagined he would hold anyones hand. But the voices overwhelmed him. Angry voices. The voice of God, otherwise known as The Voice of Doom, was loudest of all.
"B-but you should know that I'm... I'm schizophrenic. I hear voices in my head..."
Oh now she would think he was a nutcase. A psycho. And he would be alone with the voices once more. Damn his schizophrenia.

Chiyuki looked at Maverick, confused for only a short second. Schizophrenia? He looked somewhat doubtful after he had admitted he was schizophrenic, which hit Chiyuki deep for only a second, but she then squeezed his hand hard for only a short second.
"You just need to get your mind off of them, is all. Yeah. Dinner sounds great."
She looked at Maverick with a smile, the lights shining on her eyes.

"I-I guess your right.."
Maverick started to walk towards the hotel's restaraunt. When they reached it, he asked the man for a table for two. He nodded and said the wait would be about ten minutes. Maverick gave the man his name and led Chiyuki over to a becnch to sit down.
Then he looked at her, and wondered how she really had come to be alone. He was only alone because his whole pack and family was dead. Most likely, Airron was probably dead too. For Maverick had seen nothing of him in this city.
"So, Chiyuki, do you mind me asking how you came to wind up here all alone? Or is that too personal? If it is, I understand."
(sorry for kind of controling your charry, without doing that there wasn't much to type)

Chiyuki looked up from her menu [which she was thrilled to see] and looked at Maverick, who wanted to know about her solitude. She didn't find it personal at all, for she was never asked why she was alone. So she didn't hesitate to answer.
"My father died before I was born, and my mother died a year ago, and since I am their only child, I have no siblings to look to for help. So I walked alone for a while now."
She had Maverick now. A friend, something she thought she would never have. Chiyuki trusted him with all her heart, and she was so happy to be acquaintanced with someone like him.
But then a question popped up into Chiyuki's brain, and she threw it out into the open without even realizing it.
"Where is your family?"
She felt like throwing herself into a window.

"M-my family? Their... dead. All dead. All except my cousin Airron, and he's gone. So I, too, have been alone for quite a while."
Maverick sighed, and wiped the single tear from his eye as it tried to slip into view.
"My father, Holland, tried to kill my uncle, Six. My sister Venus tried to stop them. But then... Then there was a flood. A flash flood. They all died in it. My mother died of depression, Taj and Holly of disease. Then Airron left, and I was alone."
Now it was all he could do to keep his voice steady, and keep himself from crying. Pathetic. The last time he cried about this he was a mere cub. Now here he was, a teenager, about to cry in a restaraunt. Really pathetic.

Chiyuki was about to break down. Oh my God...Maverick... was the only thing that occured to her. She felt like crying for him, seeing that one tear that escaped his eyes, but she didn't want to see him break down in front of her. Chiyuki reached over the table and placed her hand on top of Maverick's, which was lying on the table like her shaking heart. She began to tear a little as she looked at Maverick, who was now looking at her in the eyes.
"It...will be okay, Maverick." was all se could say. Then she fell back into her chair, thinking: Look at what you've done, Chiyuki, look. Then die.

Maverick took her hand, and brought it to his face. Then he kissed it.
"Don't. Don't waste your tears on me. I-I can't stand to see you cry."
It was all Maverick could do to stop from howling right then and there. He took a hand, and wiped away the tears falling from her eyes.
"Let's go. Too many humans around here for my liking."
Maverick stood up, holding back the tears. If he could do that, maye she would stop crying. That was all he wanted. And part of him wanted to love her. But the other part was on God's side, about not getting involved with her. He held out his hand to her, forcing a small smile.

Chiyuki looked at the hand Maverick kissed and fell into a slight daze. She couldn't believe it. But before she could wander off any further from herself, she looked back at Maverick who waited for her reply.
"Well, it wouldn't be good if you howled in here."
A suspicious man looked at them from a table in the corner of the restraunt. Chiyuki only glanced at him for a short second before she turned back to Maverick. She grabbed his hand and gestured towards the door.
"We got to go." Chiyuki whispered, and began to walk towards the door.
